Happy Valentine's Day!!!!

I have done research in this very topic because their are so many people that think that Valentine's Day is just another hoilday to spend lots of money ,but I beg to differ.

Valentine's Day started in the time of the Roman Empire. In ancient Rome, Feb. 14th was a Hoilday to honour Jun the Queen of the Roman Gods and Goddesses. The Romans also knew her as the Goddess of women and marriage. Feb. 15th, began the feast of Lupercalia.
The lives of young girls and boys were strickly separate. However, one of the customs of the young people was name draw eve of the festival of Lupercalia the names of Roman girls were written on slips of paper and placed into jars. Each young boy would draw a girl's name out of the jar and that would be their partner for the duration of the festival with the girl whom he had chosen. The paring of the children lasted an entire year, and often they would fall in love and would later marry.

There are varing opinions as to the origin of Valentine's Day. Some experts state that it originated from St. Valentine. He was a martyred for refusing to give up his Christianity. He died on Feb. 14th, 269 A.D., the same day that had been devoted to the love lottiers.
Legend also states that St. Valentine left a farewell message for the jailer's daughter, who became his friend, and signed it "From your Valentine".

So Feb. 14th became the day for exchanging love messages and St. Valentine became the partron saint of lovers.
There was often a party or a ball, and people would send flowers or small gifts.
The first Valentine to be sent was in the 1800's by a Miss Esther Howland.

Some of the Traditions:

In the Middle Ages , yound men and women drew names from a bowl to see who their valentine would be. They would wear these names on their sleeves for one week. To wear your heart on your sleeve now means that it is easy to see what you are feeling.

A love seat is a wide chair. It was first made to seat one women and her wide dress. Later, the love seat or courting seat had two sections, often in an S-shape. In this way, a couple could sit together--- but not to closely!

In some countries, a young women may receive a gift of clothing from a young man. If she keeps the gift, it means that she will marry him.

If you cut and apple in half and count how many seeds are inside, you will also know how many children you will have.

I know this post is long but I love Valentine's Day!

Micah : Mom when do I get to get married?

Micah: (while in the ladies department) Mom when does Tamar get to have this (use your imagination)

Tamar : Can I be the only girl (in our family) forever?

Micah: (saying his letters during school) A E I O U, I know what those are called "their my bowels"
" May the grace of the LORD Jesus Christ, and the love of GOD, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you."
2 Corinthians 13, vs. 14
